Christopher R Sponn

Christopher R. Sponn is the Executive Director of Tompkins County Workforce Development and is passionate about transforming structures and communities for the benefit of all, not just some. Chris previously worked for 5 years in urban schools on the Southside of Chicago and East St. Louis. Urban Prep Academies for Young Men was his placement school with Teach for America, where 100% of graduates, all black males, were admitted to college. Although they never won The Ship, he also proudly coached basketball in East St. Louis and track & field in Chicago! A lack of investment in the community and the effect it had on families led to him going back to school to get his Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Chris pursued this path so he could fight to ensure the underrepresented could have a seat at the table and be heard through sound policy and representation. Chris is forever grateful to be part of the Southside family and is excited for what is next!
